It was interesting to see at the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected NPDC councillors and Community Board members on Nov 30th. That I and many others that sat in attendance noticed straight away after the formalities were done declarations etc. That there was clear dissension amongst the councillors. When push came to shove on votes on the mayors appointments to council committees. It showed clearly who was with who within the council ranks. There were five old previous faithful councillors that stood firmly in the mayor's camp, Four confused weak kneed councillors two new and two old that could go either way, Three of which when eyebrow-ed by the mayor on their first vote decision, suggesting think again, you are voting for councillor Sherril George's amendment on the committee elected to monitor the CEO's performance, quickly changed their votes when given a third opportunity to vote in favor of the mayors camp. Their were five councillor's one old and four new that had the opposing view. That all councillors should be on the committee, not just the five loyal councillor's appionted by the mayor. At least now there are more than just one descending voice, Individual councillors that won't be bullied willing to speak their mind on behalf of the NP ratepayers. But not nearly enough to change the status quo of council. My advise to these few confused councillors is that the district expects clear decision from its councillors, a yes or a no, not a yes yes no or a no no yes depending on if the mayor likes their decision or not, or if Councillor Sherrill George voted for it then they must then vote against it. They are elected to serve the districts interests to the best of their ability, not their own or the mayor's interests. That's what they campaigned on and was also in their swearing in statements that they voiced and signed only moments before. Meaning they have breached their oath their promise to this community. To give them the benefit of doubt.. would mean they are complete idiots.
